Why Worship @ St. Mary's?

We provide a safe and loving environment that encourages:

Friendship- Nothing quite compares to the joy of a Christian friendship. That is why we make it a priority to build lasting bonds between members of our church family- bonds of certain and genuine commitment to one another. Best of all this circle of care is ever-widening!

Learning- To study the Bible is vital because it not only instructs us intellectually, but also guides us spiritually. We believe it and accept it as God's Word to man, a "book" that is alive and relevant to life TODAY. Learning it's truth is a thrilling adventure.

Enrichment-For every person at every age level, we offer a wealth of opportunities-special programs and ministries for children, youth, and adults which fill the church calendar. You can be sure that in this kaleidoscope of activities there's more than one place where you can be personally enriched.

Service- Just as Jesus came "not to be ministered unto, but to minister..."we accept our responsibility to reach out in service to others. This applies both within the church family and outside our fellowship.

Worship- The primary reason we meet together is to focus our attention on God, giving Him our worship, and receiving His blessing and inspiration. Each of these occasions is a special time of spiritual refreshment.

Our Mission

"Loving God, Serving His Community through Christ"

                                                        Matthew 28:18-20

Here at St. Mary's we have a three part mission:

-To function as an efficient body in winning souls for Jesus Christ.

-To preserve the Christian doctrine: AND

-To secure the principles of our confession of faith.

Our goal is to teach, stimulate, encourage, and develop spiritual growth for all.

All that we do is not unto men, but unto the Glory of God!

Our Roots

1950- Reverend Dr. Louis Allen McCombs organized and founded St. Mary's Baptist Church.

1952- Reverend McCombs led the congregation of St. Mary's to purchase a place they could call their own. A two- story dwelling @ 3900 Kansas Ave. N.W.

1971- Was the dawn of a new day. We said goodbye to our Kansas Ave home, and journeyed to our present location.

1975- We were not only blessed to celebrate the silver anniversary of the church, we were also able to "burn the mortgage!" Sadly,Rev. McCombs delivered his final sermon this year also.

1983-Reverend Dr. Darryle R. Crump was appointed Interim Pastor .

1984- Reverend Crump was called to be St. Mary's second Pastor.

1984-2013- Under Reverend Crump's tenure several new initiatives were started:Wednesday Food Program, Mighty Men of Valor, Friday Night Feed the Hungry and Homeless program, Women's Ministry, Single Mom's Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Christian Education Ministry, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, and Visitation Ministry just to name a few.

2013- Pastor Crump retired after 29 years of faithful service.

2014- Reverend Kendrick A. Anderson was appointed Interim Pastor.

July 3, 2016- St. Mary's called Reverend Daryl M. Washington to serve as the 3rd Pastor. Seven days later he began serving in that capacity.
